In Their Words:
Peggy
20th July 2014 – 23rd January 2026
Peggy came into our lives in January 2021.
We discovered later that she was from Romania and her fused right hind leg with missing paw was probably due to a road traffic accident; her pelvis, fractured in five places. We took her for regular physiotherapy.
She bonded with us instantly and put her trust in us to be her guardians.
I still remember waking up each morning when we first adopted her and remembering she was waiting downstairs. The novelty of having her in our lives never wore off.
She brought us and so many others pure joy. She was so beautiful and such a little character.
We took her everywhere and she enjoyed many holidays with us. Seeing her zest and enjoyment of life, including simple things, brought us much happiness.
Some of her favourite things were food (vegan cheese and ‘fake chicken’, being two of her favourites); rolling in the grass; sunbathing in the garden; being carried; showing off her skills and receiving praise/treats for these and her numerous beds she had to choose from.
Peggy changed our lives; we learnt to love in a way we never have before. She was family – our daughter – and we absolutely adored our little princess.
She was healthy for the first three and a half years we had her but struggled with various health issues in her last year and a half. She was a little fighter, battling mammary cancer, heart problems, respiratory illness, skin problems, and anxiety/stress.
It came to a point where she could not fight anymore, and we gave her permission to give up and trot over The Rainbow Bridge. She was not well enough to fight her kidney issues – the surgery and invasive aftercare – so we let her go.
We were there with her when she took her last breath. We stroked her and told her what a good girl she was. As I looked at her for the last time, I said, ‘’Bye darling.’ Oh, how we sobbed when we got outside the clinic – the loss of her was just too much to bear. I am crying as I write this.
It is now over three months since we said goodbye and we are healing; we have got to a stage where we accept that she is no longer in our lives; it was her time to leave us; for her suffering to be no more.
We now remember the good times rather than focusing on the ‘end’ and the stress and heartache of her being unwell.
We talk about her constantly; she is still with us – not physically but in our hearts and minds.
We loved and still love you, Peggy. You were our world, our little girl.
We will always remember you, sweetie. Thank you for being you and as your metal Chihuahua garden stake states, for ‘Spreading so much Joy.’
I won’t say Rest in Peace as I hope you are rolling in the grass, daisies and dandelions and are being a little flirt with big male dogs – you little minx!
Peggy- Precious, Pure…just Perfect – our Princess. Forever adored. xxx
